SPAWN RECORDS |

|
Someone once told me that the defination of crazy was to do the same thing over
and over and expect different results. Well when I spawn bettas, I always
want better results, so I keep records. I use what works and I change what doesen't.
There are lots of ways to keep records and lots of forms available to use.
The trick is to be able to find the records when you want them. I keep a record sheet on each of my breeder males and I give them an alpha tag (A thru ZZ). This info is where they came from, what geno they are supposed to be carring, how they've done on previous spawns. ie. what works and what doesn't. I also keep similar records on each female, except that I use a numerical tag on the girls (1 thru 99) . And I keep spawn records. Anything and everything that might affect the health or growth of the spawn, the sex of the fry, The weather, the phase of the moon. If you don't write it down when it happens, it's lost forever. Then I tag the spawn record with papa's leter and momma's number. I also make a quick spawn parents pic so I can see at a glance what the parents looked liek.
When the spawn grows out, I cull the majority, but those I keep get taged with the spawn tag plus a sequential male / female designation. And sha-zam it all ties together with a web page. I use microsoft word to write the male & female files and then I save them as web pages so I can link to them. I use microsoft excell spread sheets to keep spawn records and also save them as Web pages and link to them. This makes record keeping and look-up easy. At a glance I can see what the male and female looked like and when they spawned. The picture of the male is linked to his file and the picture of the female is linked to her file and the spawn tag is linked to it's file. It takes a little longer for me to create the webpage files, but it's easy and it works. |
